A few weeks before his birthday, I asked Jeremy what he wanted for his birthday cake. Honestly, his first response was "Boots", which is Dora's sidekick on the cartoon series called Dora. I guess that since Nicole had a Dora cake this year, Jeremy thought he should have a Boots cake. But after doing Dora, Boots just didn't seem challenging enough. So you know me, always looking for a challenge, I suggested a motorcycle cake and Jeremy went crazy with excitement! So here it is, one very large motorcycle. And after serving it at Jeremy's school to 36 kids plus many adults, there was only one wheel left over.
Each wheal was made from one round cake pan. The body was cutout from 2 large sheet cakes. I used licorice for the spokes and fender, and covered the "leather seat" with fruit leather (a fruit roll up that managed to make it's way all the way back home to Africa on our last furlough to North America. My favorite part was the handlebars. I used two short candy bars and attached them with toothpicks. The headlights were an afterthought, I used hard mint candies. They started to melt the moment I put them on the frosted cake, but it turned out well, because it gave the light a slight glowing effect.
The cake itself, which is much less interesting than the cake decorating, was a homemade chocolate banana cake.
