Dora Cake
For Nicole's 5th Birthday, December 2006
When I asked what kind of cake Nicole wanted for her 5th birthday, she immediately said, "Dora"... and I gasped! But in all truth, this Dora cake was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. However, Nicole's first comment upon seeing it the morning of her birthday party at school was, "Where's her backpack?...
I cut the cake out of a double layer sheet cake. I used Nutella chocolate spread for the hair and eyes. I made my own buttercream frosting for the face. It was tricky, because the butter gave Dora a definate yellow tint. Since Dora is Hispanic, and not Asian, I added a bit of chocolate to the buttercream to get the right skin color. In retrospect, I could have probably added even more chocolate.
(For those of you who don't know Dora, she's a cartoon character that Nicole and Jeremy both like. And by the way, our cat is also named Dora. Our cat was named by Nicole and Jeremy after their favorite cartoon.)
